Question by aladdin.2006: Do you think that “Norton internet security” and “mcaffee security” ARE spyware!!?
I bought my computer, it comes with trial version of these 2 program, as a matter of fact they ARE spyware!!! they slow down your computer terribly, they stop most of your trusted program to connect to the internet, and when the free trial time expire, your email will be filled with ads about buying mcaffee softwares, and every while (about 5 times a day) a pop up appears and tells you to “subscribe”, you will even be unable to delete the program even by add or remove programs
in conclusion they both:
1. slow down your computer
2. fill your email by ads
3. run a pop up ads
4. stop many of you programs from working
5. they don’t even protect your computer at all!!!
what do you call that?? A TOTAL SPYWARE!!!
what is your opinion

Norton was created by the anti-christ. It takes control of your computer and like “Alien” you’re never sure it’s gone.

You my friend learned the hard way. In many ways Norton is worse than many spyware applications. While not intentional, Norton is a resource hog, it likes to eat up ram and CPU cycles all for the act of keeping your computer safe. Almost any IT professional will tell you to stay away from Norton and McAffee. Since I am a soon to be IT professional, I will tell you the same thing, GET RID OF THEM, NOW.
Honestly, Norton sucks, McAffee sucks and all the others, well they suck too. There are only two good anti-virus programs I know of.
AVG Free, http://free.grisoft.com/ and Avast, http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
Then of course there are Spyware scanners that you should get as well (Google them):
Adaware SE
Spybot Search and Destroy
MS AntiSpyware Beta
SpywareBlaster
And for a firewall I like the Sygate Personal Firewall, http://www.tucows.com/preview/213160
All these programs combined use far less resources than Norton and they protect your PC a heck of a lot better than Norton EVER did or EVER will do.
I hate you Norton, your product sucks. Oh and Cnet hates it too.
no bro i think you need to do some reading. to learn what is spyware and what is not.
I haven’t used Norton is years, mainly beacuse it’s a bloated and mostly ineffective program.
Is it spyware? No
Not everything fits into the “spyware” catgory. There are two other terms which internet users should be familiar with.
1) Malware: a) Programs that don’t act or what they supposed. b) programs that track your surfing habits without telling you.
2) Adware: Programs that send pop-up ads or advertisments without your permission.
Norton kind of fits into all these catagories.
A prime example of a ad/malware combo is the new AOL Instant Messenger. It installs crap you don’t need without your approval, and decides to watch where you surf and pop up an ad once in a while as “a useful feature”
Norton is just a poorly designed program, that has grown so large (in terms of raw code) that the developers and software engineeers cannot fix all the bugs, much like Windows.
To fix your problem uninstall Norton, download ZoneAlarm free, and AVG free (antivirus) I run both of them without a problem. Links below.
Yeah, I used to have those problems. But thanks to my new dual core processor, the McAffee works flawlessly. It runs complete virus scans while I download music and watch movies and I don’t even notice a slowdown. They aren’t spyware, they’re just very memory intensive and resource hogs. But seeing how these problems literally disappear with next-generation dual-core processors, I think these programs were just literally ahead of their time.
No, they aren’t spyware but they are garbage. Last time i worked on a computer that had Norton on it (system works) It took me almost 2 hours to get rid of everything in the registry AFTER the uninstall. Neither of them work well or do what they are suppose to do. Try PC Cillin if you want a good one.
